A Barbadian national is now in trouble with the law after attempting to leave St. Lucia with cannabis in his luggage.

A police press release stated that on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, officers attached to the Drug Unit were summoned to the George F.L Charles Airport by Customs personnel.

“Upon arrival, information received indicated during the screening of luggage belonging to a male individual scheduled to board a LIAT flight to Barbados, several suspicious packages were discovered. The individual was later identified as a Barbadian national. A closer examination of the packages revealed dry green plant materials suspected to be cannabis,” the press release added.

Police said charges of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug are expected to be laid against him at a later date.

He remains in custody.
