A man from Augier is currently receiving treatment at St. Judes Hospital for wounds sustained in a chopping incident last night, Monday, May 13, 2013 in the south of the island.
Sherman Fontenelle, 29, was chopped on his arm at about 8:30 pm in Augier. The perpetrator reportedly fled the scene after the incident and is now being sought by police.
A relative said Fontenelle received “some deep wounds from the cutlass”.
The relative said the altercation stemmed from an argument over gambling.
“They were gambling and he said the guy took his money so he tried stabbing the guy but the guy chopped him,” the relative said.
However, another person who claims to have knowledge of the incident, dismissed the relative’s explanation.
He said: “He didn’t try to stab him, he stabbed him and the guy run then come back with his cutlass and let him (Fontelle) have it. They were not gambling, they were arguing over something the guy say he stole.”
