Police are interviewing “persons of interest” in relation to last week’s murder of 19-year-old Chereece Benoit of Monchy, according to reliable sources.

Reports are that three persons are assisting police with investigations.

Interviewing persons of interest in criminal cases is a normal process in police investigations, sources say.

Police will interview almost anyone who last had contact with her, who last saw her, who last argued with her, anyone who stalked her or was seen in the vicinity of the crime spot, among other factors. It’s a usual process to eliminate suspects as well as find the perpetrator, a source said.

Sometimes persons of interest become suspects based on the information gathered, but no one has been formally arrested and charged to date.

However, the police is encouraging anyone with any bit of information to call the Gros Islet Police Station at 456-4061/62 or the nearest police station.

A police press release stated that the incident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Benoit’s residence in La Feuille, Monchy.

Benoit was home alone, police said.

“The mother of the victim returned to her residence at about 8:45 p.m. to find it disturbed. She proceeded to her daughter’s room to find her lying face down on her bed with her limbs bounded. Consequently, the police was called and an investigation commenced,” the release stated.

No one has been arrested in relation to this homicide.

This has been the 24th homicide for 2013.
